Towed Vehicles dataset is not updating

The Towed Vehicles dataset, which normally updates every 15 minutes, has not updated since 10:01 am today.  We are investigating the cause and will post any significant changes – including when the updates resume – as edits to this post.

Services making use of this dataset, such as http://www.wasmycartowed.com, will also be affected.  We are not certain but initial indications are that the City of Chicago’s Find Your Vehicle page also has not been updating for towed vehicles since approximately the same time.

Please note that the Relocated Vehicles dataset updates separately and appears to be working properly.

Update 8/10/2016, 12:43 pm - The dataset appears to be updating properly again.  We will continue to monitor but this will be the last update unless the problem returns.

Public Chauffeurs data delayed

Due to issues with the data source, the Public Chauffeurs dataset is not showing same-day data.  Updates will occur in the mornings, using data up-to-date through the previous day.

We hope to return to same-day updates sometime in July and will update this post as we have more information.

Consolidation of Public Health Clinic Datasets

The Chicago Department of Public Health has historically published three datasets showing the locations, hours, and other information about different clinic types it operates.  Those datasets have been consolidated into a single dataset, with associated map.

Missing time slices in beach automated sensor datasets - 6/2/2016

The hourly updates for the Beach Water Quality - Automated Sensors and Beach Weather Stations - Automated Sensors datasets have been failing since 5 am. We are investigating the problem.

Unlike some datasets, the nature of how these datasets are updated means the missing time slices will not be filled in, even after the underlying problem is fixed.

Update 6/2/2016, 2:10 pm - The problem has been fixed and the datasets are updating.

Added Ward-Precinct combined field to Business Licenses dataset

Our Business Licenses dataset shows the ward and precinct where the business is located.  Because the same precinct numbers exist in different wards, filtering for a set of precincts in multiple wards has been more complex than necessary.  We have added a new column titled “WARD PRECINCT” to the dataset, which has a combined value.  For example, if you want to filter for businesses in the 1st precinct of the 2nd ward and the 3rd precinct of the 4th ward, you can now set the criteria to 2-1 and 4-3.

This change carries over to the “Current Active” views of the dataset:

• Business Licenses - Current Active
• Business Licenses - Current Liquor and Public Places of Amusement Licenses
• Business Licenses - Current Active - Map

What coordinate system do our shapefiles use?

We frequently get questions about what coordinate system our shapefile datasets use.  The answer is State Plane Illinois East NAD 1983.

It is important to note that this answer applies to the files we upload – those of view type Files and Documents and “Original” exports of our newer map format.  The “Shapefile” exports are created by the Data Portal software, even if the original file was also a shapefile, and use WGS84.

Crimes - 2001 to present dataset is missing records

Due to an error in this morning’s update job, most records in the Crimes - 2001 to present dataset were deleted, leaving only 722 records. We are working on the problem and hope to have a complete dataset by tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, the Crimes - One year prior to present dataset, which shows a trailing year of records, appears to be accurate and can be used as an alternate source for that time period.

Datasets are not updating - 1/7/2016

Due to a problem we are investigating, none of our automated dataset updates have run since about 10 pm yesterday.

Update 1/7/2016, 10:50 am - The problem has been fixed and datasets are updating again, although a few may not be updated until tonight’s regularly scheduled runs.

Changes to Restricted Flavored Tobacco Product dataset

We have updated the Restricted Flavored Tobacco Product dataset. The updates reflect the amended rule for enforcement of restrictions on the sale of flavored tobacco products within 500 feet of schools, effective December 14, 2015.

The new dataset includes hundreds of additional flavored tobacco products identified by the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH).

In addition we have made the following changes to the dataset structure:

• Added a DETAIL column providing more information about tobacco product flavors. For example, there may be a product where FLAVOR is BLUE MAGIC and DETAIL is BLUEBERRY.
• Removed the UPC column to simplify the search process.
• Removed the EFFECTIVE DATE column to reflect the new rules, which no longer require a product be included on the list to be banned.
  

Previously, this dataset would have been updated quarterly. Moving forward it will be updated periodically with new products at the discretion of CDPH.

Correcting field name in Police Department FOIA Request Log

Due to a typo when the dataset was created, the name of the “Date Received” column in the FOIA Request Log - Police dataset is misspelled as “Date Recieved” and the API Identifier is correspondingly misspelled as “date_recieved” instead of “date_received” in this dataset.

On 1/11/2016, we will correct both the column name and the API
